Chef Isaac
I grew up watching and helping my late father, Judge James Benjamin, Esq., prepare daily gourmet meals. My love and passion for food is a credit to my father. My fondest memories are of him singing and the incredible aromas that came out of his kitchen. I was never late for breakfast. My dad, a lawyer by profession, trained and paid his way through college and law school as a chef. My dad was a student of the late world renowned Chef Julia Child. Being the second son, I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Step one, I learned everything I could from him in the kitchen and step two, I tried my hand at law school. I had more luck as a restaurateur. In my restaurant career I have been the head manager and chef at numerous restaurants for more than 18 years at locations all over the world. The one aspect I enjoyed most while working in the industry was serving a downright delicious meal, and then watching people’s delight. It is with spirit that I decided to take the product directly to the end consumer. The best way I know is to prepare a restaurant quality meal in a client’s home. This idea first struck me about 12 years ago. I was taking my lady out on the town. When I arrived at the restaurant, there was a 45-minute delay before we could be seated. I waited out the time in the lobby and thought to myself—wouldn’t it be nice if I could get the same quality at home without the wait. Much to my delight, I also discovered that there was an entire personal chef’s industry. I started Cuisines by Isaac, LLC in 2007.
I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Journalism in 1982. I was the Managing Editor for the Crusader News Group in Genesee County. Additionally, I write a bi-monthly food column for the Michigan Bulletin in Lansing. When hired, I also enjoy preparing delectable dish for clients in the evenings as Chef Isaac.
